The path proposed by the EMCA
The EMCA program offers a five-year course: a Bachelor’s degree in three years, then a Master’s degree in two years.
From the Bachelor’s to the Master’s degree, students learn to master the tools and methods of making a film, to work in a team and carry out an end-to-end project, then gradually develop their artistic universe to achieve a short-professional footage reflecting one’s own artistic identity.
- In the Bachelor’s program, emphasis is placed on technical acquisitions while starting to develop one’s perspective and identity as an author.
- In the Master’s program, students deepen their approach as authors, explore the medium in very varied forms, while strengthening their technical skills.
Bachelor’s degree in animation cinema
In the Bachelor’s program, emphasis is placed on acquiring techniques and understanding artistic intentions.
- In Bachelor 1, students consolidate their skills in drawing, develop their artistic culture and explore the technical foundations of animation cinema (drawing, bench-title, movement).
- In Bachelor 2, students learn to tell stories through moving images and convey emotions. They also learn how to respond creatively to imposed demand.
- In Bachelor 3, students perfect themselves in the techniques of their choice. They are working on personal projects as well as two films as a team.
Writing and the hybridization of techniques (traditional and digital 2D, 3D, stop motion) occupy an important place throughout the process.
Travel to festivals:
- In Bachelor 1, students participate in the Festival Nuits Magiques of Bordeaux (coverage of accreditation and transport).
- In Bachelor 1 and 2, students attend a special screening of the FIFCA (Angoulême International Short Film Festival) as well as the Festival Courts d'Ecoles (condensed from the Poitiers Film Festival).
- In Bachelor 3, students participate in the Rennes National Animation Film Festival (coverage of accreditation and travel).
- All the students participate in the International Comic Strip Festival (FIBD) as well as in the Feast of Anim organized by the Magelis Image Center and the AFCA (Master class for directors, premieres of feature films, professional meetings)
Master in Design and Production of Animated Films
Travel to festivals:
- In Master 1, students can participate in the Festival National du Film d'Animation de Rennes (coverage of accreditation and travel).
- In Master 2, students participate in the Fontevraud Meetings / Paths of Creation (on a voluntary basis), at the Cartoon Forum (4 to 5 selected students), at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival (travel and accreditation covered).
- All the students participate in the International Comic Strip Festival (FIBD) as well as in the Feast of Anim organized by the Magelis Image Center and the AFCA (Master class for directors, premieres of feature films, professional meetings)
In the Master cycle, the emphasis is on building a world of authorship and developing a personal language.
For which students are you?
The Master is aimed at students wishing to pursue achievement but not only. It is also aimed at students who wish to strengthen their technical skills and understand the production chain of a film and its directing intentions in order to better know where they stand and progress more quickly towards positions of responsibility.
- The Master 1 offers technical reinforcement courses in animation and several workshops promoting the understanding of complementary forms of expression but still integrating animation – animated documentary, contemporary art, performances, web series – which are for each as many sources of reflection and inspiration. These practices are also rooted in economic realities.
- In Master 2, students make a short film or a finished work reflecting a personal artistic identity.
